Malpensa Express is the fastest way to get to Como. To reach Como from Milan-Malpensa Airport, proceed as follows: take the Malpensa Express (departing from both terminals) to Milan and get off at Saronno (after about 20 minutes) at Saronno train station, take the train from Milano Cadorna to Como Lago (40 minutes).

We went to Varenna by train and then we took the ferry to Menaggio where we rented a boat from AC Boat rental. We spent 3 hours touring around the lake from the rental boat and it was a wonderful afternoon.
Como to Milan – Direct Way: take the A9 and A8. Distance 51 km, travel time 1 hour. Como to Milan – Scenic Way: follow the SP31 to Saronno, and then keep following the blue ‘Milano’ signs through the Brianza area and Milan’s northern suburbs. Distance 53 km, travel time 1 hour 40.
