Going for an MY17 and newer car should be fine. I have the mentioned "early adopter" car produced in the first production months of S3 in may 2015 and it has been a nightmare - most of the problems mentioned above + issues with door seals (replaced 2x), rear brakes, start/stop engine button, rear left speaker, water pump + belt.
